Little things...
What would be some cheap add ons for a little extra power for a stock 305. Not looking to go into the engine. Getting headers, muffler and tune up. Already have an open element and edlebrock 600 carb. Would an aluminum intake off an lg4 have any advantage over a iron one off of a 81 305 van engine besides weight? I'm not sure it is aluminum, what would an aluminum and iron one weight? Thanks

I doubt you'd gain much by adding the aluminum intake, other than a nice weight savings. I'm pretty sure the iron ones and aluminum ones are basically the same castings. Just the weight savings may be worth the effort though, they are much lighter than an iron intake.
What rear end gears do you have? You could get alot of performance out of a set of 3.42 or 3.73 gears.

Well the car is a 82z which came stock with 2.73's but i did the drive shaft turning test thing and I get 3.23's from that. It is a peg leg rear. I wont know for sure gear ratio until the snow lets up and I can pull the cover. If I had 28 spline axles, I was thinking about a zexel posi.

Well still a 3.42 or 3.73 posi is something you'd definitely thank yourself for getting. You could relocate battery to the trunk for weight ratio improvement to compliment the weight savings from swapping intakes. Port the intake a bit before swapping it in that'll assure some small gains. What I would do is concentrate on suspension. Lower it slightly, get LCAs a panhard rod, upgrade the torque arm, and get subframe connectors. You'll have awesome weight distribution when you hammer it.

Maybe you should just port the Iron Intake out a bit.
Weight savings can be had in many other areas.
Alot of those suspension\chassis parts I mentioned earlier save weight over stock. Not sure how hardcore you wanna get, but you could toss your backseats, air conditioning, spare&jack as well. I refuse to do that, I like a fully functional ride.

Well the edelbrock carb is on the lg4 intake right now so maybe it isnt aluminum then. How would I tell if it was aluminum, because I heard some lg4's came with an aluminum intake and some didnt. Airconditioning has already been taken out,no spare or jack, and I want to keep the back seats in. I was thinking of porting the intake but didnt know if it would be worth it since the heads are not ported. I dont want to get another rear, not trying to put to much money into it right now. I still have to get tires and want to make it look good.I was thinking about the battery relocation, is it worth it? Also how do you tell what spline axles you have? Thanks for the help.

The batt. reloacation will shave about 25lbs off the front, and add it to the back. So It makes an actual difference in the cars front to back weight ratio.
