94 lt1. tranny question
94 lt1. tranny question
will my 91 700r4 bolt up to a 94 LT1. are there any complications in doing this. the 94 used to have a six speed, and i am using the computer from the LT1, so will the 700r4 work?
I wouldnt think it would be that hard. You could use a throttle body off of a 93 LT1 so that you have the tv connection. Then you just have to worry about lockup. I am not sure if the LT1 computer uses the same type signal as the older cars for the lock up or not since they have more electronic control. Actually, since yours was a manual, you will need to get something like the B&M torque converter lockup kit. There are several companies that make things similar to this. Different ones work in slightly different ways. Some operate on speed, and some are just a manual switch. Since the LT1 I have came out of a 94 impala which was obviously a 4L60E, I am going to check into how the wiring works on those as far as lockup is concerned and see if it is possible to have the LT1 computer control the Lockup. You might be able to do the same, but you would probably have to have the tranny harness from a auto, and have the chip programmed for the torque converter to work.
The one thing that makes me kind of wonder if this will work is because the computer has a lot more to do with how the 4l60e works than a 700r4 and I am afraid that it may have more of a comunication type connection instead of just a on/off type lockup. I dont think the way I explained it is real clear but maybe you understand what I am trying to say.

It all depends on how much money you would like to spend.. 94 computers can be reprogrammed to work with a 700r4 and you would need the bracketry to work with the tv cable, for lockup a manual lockup unit available through jegs or summit.. the reprogramming and parts can all be had through the pros for cash.. the two places that have helped me the most are speartech.com and street and performance. Or you can hunt them down yourself and then get one of the tunercat people on the board to reprogram your computer..
I am in the midst of my own swap but I am using a computer controlled tranny..

Well, I plan on doing my own tunercat work when it comes time, but I just got the 350 in the car so I am in no hurry to get the LT1 ready. Also, it would be kind of cool to use the 4L60E, but I think if I was going to swap my tranny it would be replaced with a 6 speed.

ok, the manifolds on the 305 choked that engine enough, and you want to put them on a 350?! just imagine breathing in normally but exhaling through a straw, and thats what your engine will be doing. you can do it, but why when you can get a set of Hedman headers for $99.

thanks texasLT1. if you look at my sig you will see i already have hedman 1 3/4 headers that i wanted to use temporaily on the 350 until i save up enough for some ceramic ones. so the 305 HEADERS will fit the 350 the same i presume.
Yes your headers will fit. They are probably 1 5/8 not 1 3/4 though because there are only 2 headers for thirdgens with 1 3/4 and one is the hooker long tubes and the other is SLP. What part number are they? If they are the 1 5/8 they should do decent on the LT1. There have been tests that show that there isnt much gain from going from 1 5/8 to 1 3/4 unless you are making quite a bit of power. What are your plans for the motor?

plans for the motor:
replace alot of stuff till it the cars runs a mid-low 12 with full interior and other ****. however i can only buy some stuff at a time as i am going to school, and am only 16
. i need another 100 bucks and i can get the LT1 with all accesories.i'll pay another grand on the car this year, and then with whats left over from what i make this summer i am gonna go for a rear end swap next winter hopefully. I just wanted to check how hard of a swap its going to be for the LT1. If i get the motor for 1700 (CAN) with all computer and wiring with it (it also comes with a 4bbl intake manifold and carb) then how much in extra stuff will i have to buy, cause me and dad and neighbor can handle the swap, but what parts must be bought?
BTW: my dad won't give me a penny toward the LT1, cause he doesn't want to take out the 305 and "ruin" the car, so thats why i can't just borrow the extra 100 i need.

About how much would that be in american? Also, does it come with the origional manifold? Make sure it is actually an LT1. It is not going to be an easy swap but for somone who has a decent amount of car and wiring experience it will be nowhere near impossible. Do a search and you will find all kinds of things about it.

yeah, it is an LT1, still in the 94 camaro. the carb. and mani. are extra so i guess hes just trying to get rid of some junk. 1700 is about 1000 us. the gguy said i could take what i want(to get the motor to run) so i will get the harness, computer ecm and maybe the rad. if i need it?? the same car also has a 6-speed. I would love to get my hands on that too but i simply can't afford for now unless he still has it for sale by the end o summer. he wants 600 USD. for the 6-spped. that stuff has 90 XXXkms on it. the reason its cheap is because the market for that stuff is no good around here, it is looked at as a regular car part for a car that few people have so its gonna have to sell cheap. thats where i take advantage!
I would take all of the wiring, the computer, fans, radiator and all of the accessories. Get everything you can basically, and if you dont need something later on just dont use it.
