I am kicking around the idea of swapping my1986 T/A 305 (H) carbed engine for a stock 350 (8) TPI engine from a 90 T/A. I like to drive/cruise more than race ( those days are behind me) and I want to know what I would need to make this swap possible.(everything)? Has anyone done it? All information would be greatly appreciated........Thanks in advance.........

305 c.i. engine carb
700r4 automatic transmission

 

if you aren't too keen on what all is involved with a TPI swap, I would say your best bet would be a donor car, that way you could just swap everything right out. However if you don't want to go that route, you will have to change your gas tank (fuel lines too possibly) to accomodate an electric fuel pump, which is a direct bolt in for what you have now. You will need a new engine harness, new computer, and maybe a new dash harness too, however I'm not sure if yours will work or not.... I just took a v6 out of a firebird and put a camaro 350 TPI in, and the dash harness worked fine, gauges and everything. This is just the basic stuff you will need, I'm sure there's more, like a purge canister if you don't already have one. Hope that can help. Other than that, it should be a direct bolt in for you.
