wiring harness splicing

So Now I have 2 wiring harnesses running through my engine compartment. The old one from my carbed motor. And the new one from my TBI454 out of an 89k30

. Of coarse I was not lucky enough for the connector that connects to the fire wall to bolt up. I assume this is where I start splicing? Any way to find out which wires do what or do I just guess by color?

Yeah yeah yeah, I bought the manuels for each truck and I am plotting the splicing I need to do. Looks like a biatch.

Does the chiltons give pin location on the connector? the haynes does not for give it for the TBI, but does for tyhe carb. Makes life difficult.

I used the local library for Chilton's and another book produced my Mitchel's. The Mitchel's book was much much more technical in the older generations. They were published for auto repair shops. I made copies of what I needed. Then I could write on the pages which helped in "book keeping" the wire locations and colors.
