i found a quick fix so i can drive the TA while i take time to properly build the 350, im getting an 86 305 HO with 72000 on it from my teacher for 50 bucks. im having a garage put it in for me cause i dont have the time. im leaving the HO stock exept for my edelbrock performer intake and carb plus some dynomax headers i got for cheap. the only thing i need is a distributor, ive never been too familiar with ignition systems. should i get an old used vacum advance, or one off an lg4 and connect it to the computer? im ditching all the emitions/quadracrap so will the comp still time it right without any input?

Well, if you use a non-computer controlled distributor, the computer won't control the timing, so yes, it will time right. I think as long as you use a non-computer controlled distributor AND carbeurator together it will work.
the lg4 distributor is computer controlled, so i guess that means i cant use that
where can i get a cheap vacum advance distributor from?

Just an economic bit of advice for you. Don't pay shop labor costs to install a high mileage 305. Your shop bill is going to be many many times what the engine price is (that is kind of a waste). If you have enough money to pay shop labor invest in a better engine aswell (350 or 400), even a low-output version of a 350 would have more horse and torque than the L69 305, and a 400 is always fun!!!
You can find a good used vaccum advance HEI distributor in a Junkyard for $50 at most (depends on where you are and which junkyard you go to).
Just trying to save you a headache, go for something other than a high mileage 305 (even if it is an HO).

ya i hear what ure sayin man, but 72,000 isnt really high milage, my old engine had 170,000 on it and ran strong until the timing got screwed up and blew the rings, i got a quote today and its 450 to put it in, so for 500 bucks i can drive it all summer till the 350 is done, its worth it to me, like i said its temporary, and with the slight mods, 200 hp is far better then the 170 lg4 i was used to for the time being

Your choice and Good Luck, that's a really good price quote ($450 is cheap) but your not going to notice the difference of 30 hp in your car (well maybe a little). But for $500 it's worth it to have a V-8 T/A in the summer.
