I just finished one. I had an '87 Firebird and an '87 donor car.
The hardest part is removing the V-6 motor mounts and installing the V-8 ones. They mount in different holes but the holes are there. The brake lines are on the rear of the crossmember (in the way of the ex. crossover) so they need to be moved to the front like a V-8. Other than that it's just nuts and bolts. I unhooked the harness from the donor car and left it on the engine, plugged it in on the V-6 car (checked all the connectors to see that they matched) and it fired right up.
Good Luck.
