Block Casting # placement?
Block Casting # placement?
HITHERE know there is HITHERE block number behind the left head but due to not being HITHERE contorsionist-- hard to see. Seems to me taht the casting number is also stamped into the pad infront of the right head. Just wondering before HITHERE wast my time taking the alt. off to check. Thanks

HITHERE believe the pad also had HITHERE date code on it. HITHERE tend to forget though, so would have to check www.mortec.com to make sure.

The only place the casting number exists, completely, is the place behind the driver's side head. The date code is right by the casting #. Most blocks have the last 3 digits on each side, kind of in the middle.
The stamping in front of the pass head has 2 lines of characters; the first tells what kind of vehicle/engine combo the entire engine assembly was built for, and the second is the VIN of the vehichle it was installed in.

Yes, there is a date code for that up there as part of the first line; I don't know of decoders for it though. But I do know how to decode the casting date code.
If you really want to know what the casting is, like if you're trying to buy a car that the owner swears has a 350 in it because the guy that sold it to him told him so and you want not to get ripped like he did, then go to Sears and buy a little inspection mirror. It's incredibly useful even after you've done the one thing with it, you'll be glad you have it.
