To Stroke or Not to Stroke?

Members,

I have asked my gearhead friends this and I am not completely satisfied with the answer.

I am progressing ver smoothly with my current engine swap from a MPFI LO3 V6 to a Carbureted V8.

The BURNING QUESTION:
Stroker engine?
What are positives/negatives about installing such an engine?
I have the option of either a stroker 350 producing about 415HP and 450TQ
-------or-------
a less radical built 350 producing about 375-400HP and TQ.
Which would you pick and why? What are your thoughts?

I will know more in 24 hours.

Please let me know your 2 cents on the subject.

Thanks,
Franchise

IMHO I would stay with FI whether you stroke or not. If you have the cash I would probably stroke. From what I gather the 383 stroker does not drop off in the higher RPM range like the 350 does (or 383 owners do not complain about it.) Then again it is all in how you build it. I just think the stroker would be more fun.

If cash is tight I would price both engine builds and see where you get the most bang for your buck.

Engine: 350 firebreathing inches of Small Block Chevrolet
Transmission: A 700R4 that has trouble handling the formentioned 350.
The reason people stroke engines are for more cubic inches. So why bother with the 350vs.383 just get a 400.

The 383 will be a better performer if you get the set-up right, (but to set a 383 up right is more difficult that setting up and 350)

Either 350, 383, or 400, Good Luck.

Thanks alot guys.

It looks like it will be a 350 bored .30 over with a radical cam. It should be pretty beefy.

Thanks again for the input. I appreciate it and will keep the
board updated with any info.

Strokers make gobs of torque. That's what I'd build, a torque monster.
