Block swap
I'm really new to this, and don't know much, so I need some help. My friend just bought another engine for his camaro, and he said I could have his engine block and headers for free. It's a 350 block. My question is, could I just have someone swap the blocks, or is there more to it than that? I have a 305 TPI right now, and I just want to know what I'd have to do/get to make everything match up.
Oh, on another note, my car has a T-5..>Should I be looking for a new tranny?

You'd need the parts to complete the block. Heads, internals, cam and so fourth. Your 305 parts aren't generally going to be interchangeable. What is interchangable won't be worth the minior performance gain you would get just from a "block swap". If I were in your place I would keep the 350 block and build it up. Forged internals and a stroker kit. So when it's time to do the engine swap I would be doing it for something really worth while.
You might want to think about getting a new Transmission as well. It is my understanding that the T-5 can't really handle all that much torque. Also they aren't that reliable as I understand it. Anyone want to step in and give thier opinions, be my guest I am not an authority on the subject.
I am however a firm believer in doing it right the first time. Hope this helps.

Well, his rotating assembly (rods, crank, etc) should drop right in, but he will need new pistons for sure.
All the bolt on's like intake, exhaust, heads, etc should all change over too.

You need a whole new rotating assembly. I would get new heads and a cam too. Your tranny should be OK for a while but not too long. Sooner or later(probably sooner that later) you are going to have to get a new tranny.
