3.4l swap to a tpi350

I have a 1995 firebird v6 3.4l I want to try to swap a 1989 chevy 350 w/th350 trans. I have a moderate knowledge when it comes to cars and can rebuild motors with no problems, but when it comes to computer controls I have no clue... the donor 350 has a throttle body I was thinking about just putting a carb on it and calling it good, but what do I do with all the computer controls? I am in desperate need of some information if someone knows where to find this or if you have done it yourself, I would greatly appreciate any help anybody can offer.
thanks,
Aaron

that won't work as far as most state laws are concerned even if you don't have emissions testing you MUST use a engine the same age or newer than the body of the car plus if you're gonna do the swap you probably would like to use the 700r trans instead of the th350 for the added overdrive gear you're probably better off to sell your ride and buy one with a v-8 unless you're planning on taking it off the road permenatly and making it a strip only car, as you would get the benifits of fuel injection as well as having a factory engineered combination that will retain resale value as well as pass a state inspection

I sure didnt use an engine that is the same age or newer than my body

if you dont have emmisions testing, the swap can be done quite succesfully with a v8 donor car. at first when i did my swap i used a turbo 350 tranny, but i decided to go with a 700R4 for the over drive. if you go with a th350 you have to get a longer drive shaft...unless you get a 9 inch tailshaft th350 IIRC

i dont use the computer at all anymore

good luck

you put a carb motor in the car and you can use the computer as a paperweight.

how does removing the computer affect the working of the keyless entry, speed sensor, and other electronic componets?

Keyless entry is a function of the alarm (or keyless entry system only) "brain unit" that is at least what they are reffered to by those in the car audio electronics profession. So your ECU doesn't control that. It also won't affect your speed sensor or anything like that. All the ECU does is control your fuel system and injector firing. It also controls your vacum advance and timing but that is not necessary on a carb car.

You can do the swap but unless your car is mint I would take the advice of badandy247 and get a V-8 car instead. You'll save alot of headache doing that. There are some tech articles on this site about motor swaps in general. The V6 to V8 swap is a nightmare from what I can see. Swaping from a 305 to a 350 is not really that big a deal because all your doing is changing the block out. That's why I didn't worry about getting a 305 car.

I am not saying you shouldn't do it. Just don't get over your head. But if your car is mint and you do really want to do the swap then good luck. Hope some of this is usefull to you.
