383 Stroker Kit

does anybody know where to go to get a REALLY decent 383 Stroker Kit for less money? Summit said $1100 ... that's WAY too rich for my blood. I dont have THAT kinda money to burn. Can I get it cheaper or should I just start savin' up everything I get?? Thanks for feedback.

do you have a realistic idea of how much a 383 project is going to cost you overall? plus all of the drivetrain modifications that follow it? it is NOT cheap...

Hell Yes I know it's gonna take alot, but I mean I've got most of it all figured out, I can get hooked up and deals worked out on most stuff I'll be getting, I'm saying I cant find a deal for the Kit, I'm just sayin if anyone knows where I can get a deal, that's what I'm lookin for. I mean why pay that much when I can pay this much, know what I mean? Feel free to give "advice" no effense.

First off, the other guys just wanted to make sure you understand what you'll be gettin involved in. Unfortunately, there really is no "cheap way" to build a motor in my opinion. You can have lower budget projects, but not "cheap".

Check out www.strokermotor.com The least expensive listing they had was their "poor boy" for $1000.

To give you an idea of how insane strokers can be, my LONG block set me back about $4500. Thats the highest quality rotating assembly I could muster, a fully machined block, AFR alum. heads, and Comp valve train. Actually, thats not even all that expensive compared to some.

I have no worries when running hard now, and I certainly have plenty of confidence when I add a blower.

Good luck to ya...

Oh well no, I didn't mean to ruffle feathers or anything, I mean I know they're trying to help and all and I really appreciate it, sorry if I offended anyone that wasn't my intension. I know stroker motor is expensive, and you saying you spent $4500 sounds cheap to me, I was thinkin' more of a $6k ball-park figure. Cuz I want those AFR heads too, but I also want SuperRam with that LPE 219 cam, headers, list goes on and I know my *** is gonna be a little sore from that trip, I'm just hoping someone could tell me something I havn't heard of. I can get a Kit, and if necessary I'll get it for $1500 or whatever, but I know that just goin out and saying "ok I'll pay this much for that" when a couple months down the road someone will tell me I could've had something better for cheaper (even though the chances of those 2 going together are remote) I'm just fishin around. thanks for the link, I appreciate it. Sorry again if I seem I have attitude.

Shouldnt you have kept the compression a bit lower?

He also said on the long block. The exhaust, super ram, and crap doesnt really count as part of that. I think that if I was going to build a motor like that I would want a quality rotating assembly so I did blow it up and have to start over.

An Hour Later,

I don't think you offended anyone. We all just try to help each other around here. As for my engine, I will NOT allow myself to add it all up. I am afraid I will just get mad at myself for spending more on an engine than I did on the entire car!!!

Seriously though, I think you will always find someone says they did exactly what you did only for less money. The waves are always bigger 50 yards down the beach. Little surfing proverb for ya.

Momar,

You are correct. I am going to be changing the pistons this summmer and do some porting on the heads while I have it all apart. I will be putting it back together with my Holley Stealth Ram. I think the HSR and a mild blower will do very nicely in a daily driver, don't you?!?

Yea I think I just soiled myself. $4500 just for the kit makes me feel .. kinda like a wuss Maybe I should just shut my pie hole and do what "windowlicker" said before ... think realistically. This would've been my first *****-out rebuilt motor, I'll just work with the 350 I've got now. Maybe down the road I can get some real bank like some of you guys. I'm not "blinging" I'm just a regular guy that wants to make a car go fast as oppose to buying a fast car. I'll just be patient ... and look for a better job. thanks for everything guys, sorry it turned out to be a bummer. thanks, bye.

Well, if it makes you feel better, I am a regular guy too. I work full time and go to school full time. My car had a 305 in it when I bought it and instead of mess around with that, I saved my money and installed the 383. I didn't do a damn thing to my 305 except a few free mods. The 383 came out of my old race car which is why it is built so solidly down low. It started life as a high reving, deep breathing nitrous motor. If you are doing street and mild strip runs then you can use less expensive parts. I think you are on the right track. Stick with your 350. Do some work, take care of it, and save your bread. When you are ready, do it once, do it right.

Later,
Ryan
