Conversion: 305 Crossfire to 305 carb
Conversion: 305 Crossfire to 305 carb
Ok, I finally converted my pace car over to a carb. I put in a roller motor from an 88 IROC, installed an LT1 cam, removed the 6spd, and replaced it with a 5spd. (the 6spd paid for all of this) It now has a quadrajet on it, with an edelbrock performer intake. With full exhaust, aftermarket torque arm, and 4.10's the previous setup ran a 16.12 @ 87mph. I am shooting for a high 14 with the new setup. I plan on taking it to the track soon, to see.
My question lies with the fuel system. Does the Crossfire EFI pump REQUIRE a return line, or could I use a AFPR for a carb system with no return line, without fear of burning up the pump? I currently have it setup this way, so that I can drive it, and get some break in miles on it, but I don't want to damage anything. If that is the case, I will pull the pump and install a Holley Blue or something along those lines. If anyone can give me some insight, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks in advance.
Rob
P.S. And on a side note, while I was cleaning out the car, I found the factory build sheet tucked under the passenger seat, I am really stoked about that.

Well, leaving the return line open caused me some problems. It was forcing fuel out the return line, and leaving rivers under my car. It was also doing this while I was driving. I went ahead and stuck a bolt in the return line, and tightened a hose clamp down on it. So far I have not had any problems with the way it is setup.
Current setup consists of:
Factory Crossfire EFI pump
Carb adjustable fuel pressure regulator set @ 8psi
return line capped off
