TPI to TBI: will fuel pump work?

Hey guys,

I recently stumbled on a great deal on a 92 TA with a rotted body and a new drivetrain. My girlfriend has an 85 Z28 with a solid body, but a tired drivetrain. The donor car is TBI, her car is TPI. We completely gutted the TA today. Engine, trans, all good exterior parts, glass, complete MINT interior (seats, carpet, column, dash, all the panels).

Anyways, will the TPI fuel pump work with the TBI system?

I think I already know the answer to my question, but its always nice to double-check. Here is my thought process. The pressure regulator will bring the pressure from 45 psi to a more friendly 10 psi or so. Then the return line will route the excess fuel back to the tank.

Thanks much,
Matt

P.S. I will probably have the entire TPI setup, complete harness, and ECM up for sale soon. If you're interested, make me an offer

Just put the 305 in there with the TPI on top.
All you have to do is elongate the 2 centerbolt holes on the TPI intake and it will bolt to the 92 heads.

That is what I would do.

Nah, I'm gonna keep the TBI setup.

I know alot of you guys are going to bring that up, so here are my reasons

Reason 1. It is supposed to be a cheap swap for her. If I swapped intakes she would have to buy an intake gasket set for about $45

Reason 2. This motor already has an edelbrock performer intake, ported and polished TB, a new chip for the computer, and we have a K&N sitting in the garage for it. It feels as fast as any TPI I have owned or ridden in.

Reason 3. She really doesn't care about amazing performance anyways.

Reason 4. Her EGR valve is bad. The one on this motor is brand new. I don't think they are interchangable. That adds another $100 or so to the tally.

So anyways, does anyone know if the fuel pump will work?

I don't see why it shouldn't work with the right regulator.
One thing I am not sure of is if the 92 Computer needs to get a VSS signal from the tranny to function properly.

Thanks for the tip, I didn't even think about that I just talked to my brother, and if I need to he is going to trade his stock dash and gauges for the TPI setup. (he did a 4th gen dash conversion)That way I can maintain the electronic sending unit on the trans. So, the conversion is still completely free

Thanks again Zepher,
Matt
