Will either water pump work as long as I have the right brackets for it?
Im planning on using a flex fan setup so i dunno which one I need to get a good fit.
Any help?

What sort of bracket setup and car are you planning on using this with?
Why are you setting the car up to run hot by using one of those ineffective fans?

The block makes no difference. They're all the same as far as that goes.
When you say "early style heads", do you mean heads with no bolt holes in the ends (68 back)? What bracket arrangement are you going to use?

The "long" pump is the stock one for nearly all cars since about 69. It goes with all the bracket arrangements used since then.
The "short" pump goes on earlier cars with heads that didn't have the holes; and on Corvettes up to some later year, because of clearance issues. People use it on race cars just to save space and weight.
Without knowing more about your car it's impossible to say for sure; but it sounds like you probably have a normal car of some sort, probably 69 or later, so the "long" pump would be what you need.
If this is a thirdgen, you can get the brackets off of something like a early-mid 80s Caprice which are real plentiful in the boneyards, just get all of them off of one car as an intact set.
