91 LO3 into an 84 T/A.
Hi, I have an 84 T/A w/ a tired LG4. I just found a fully rebuilt 91 Firebird LO3 (Professionally rebuilt, done right, better than stock, about 300hp) For a very good price. This is just what I was looking for. (cheap)
The guy just wants it out of his shop.
What would it take to put this LO3 motor into my 84 T/A. I want to continue to run a carb set up. So I would need an intake manifold. Where is the fuel pump located for the LO3? (in the gas tank, not on the block like my LG4?) Can I just get an inline pump? Are their any differences I need to know/ can I just drop it in?
Thanks for any help, I really appreciate it.

I seriously doubt any LO3 could make 300 HP with LO3 heads. Those things are terrible, no matter what you do to the rest of the engine. It's not surprising he wants it out of his shop.
But, doesn't mean it isn't a good replacement engine - just not as powerful as apparently advertised. The main differences are the intake manifold bolt angles in the heads (you can modify the holes in your current manifold to make that work, or get an '87-up style q-jet manifold), and the rear main seal/flexplate. You'll need an '86-up flexplate (unless the LO3 still has its original on there still).
The LO3 fuel pump is in the tank, but you can mount your current mechanical fuel pump to the LO3 - you just need to add the pump push rod (take it out of your current engine).

Thanks for the help. I am also skeptical of his HP claims...but he was trying to sell it, hehe. Either way I know it was rebuilt well (new crank, many new pieces, everything machined). So it will certaintly be better than my LG4. I am not looking for a 305 to put out huge HP numbers any way, just something to replace the tired LG4.
Thanks again.
Thanks again.
