LQ9 to L98 Motor Swap
LQ9 to L98 Motor Swap
Hi All,
I have a 1984 Firebird with a dead 2.5L 4 banger, "the Iron Duke", engine. I would like to swap out the engine for a L98 350. Does anyone have any information on this type of swap? Is it easy to do and how involved is it to complete the swap. Any information is appreciated.
Thanks,
Pake

Welcome to the boards.
L98 swaps are discussed quite often, so I would recommend running a search on this board, I've posted on the subject a few times. Any direct questions, I'd be happy to answer. Most, if not all people here will agree with me, Get a donor L98 Car. It will simplify your swap greatly, because you'll already have what you need. You are going to have to change quite a bit on that ride to make it work, so I think a donor L98 car would be your best bet hands down.

You'll need a new transmission and new front springs. Then if you want to use the L98's TPI setup you will definatley need a whole lot of parts from a donor car. Otherwise the project will nickel and dime you to death.
You'll need to change the radiator and you might want to snag some of the other superior parts from the donor also while your at it. Like the quicker ratio steering box that the L98 is likely to have.
