hp/torque for this 383?

first off, i want to say #%$!!(@!!!!! I just spent like 30 minutes getting all the info together to write this post, and when I tried to post it, it had me sign back in, and I lost everything I had written. argh!

now that that's out of the way, i'm looking for a hp/torque estimate for this engine. per you guys advice, i'm not buying the last car i had posted the specs on here for a power estimate, and i'm looking at this one now. this is all the info i know about it, so please try to make a guess with the info provided:

1)400 sb with a 350 crank, making it 383ci
2)heads are stock 350's
3)has Comp Cams springs and lifters, and a CompCam XE268H cam ( http://www.compcams.com/catalog/056_057.html for more details on the cam - it's the fourth one down - it says it's the largest cam for a stock converter)
4)Wieland Accelerator single plane intake with a 750cfm vac sec carb, but it was ported out to 865cfm by DavinciCarbs
5)ignition is stock distrib with timing advance for the cam, coil is accel performance, and a MSD 6A-L box
6)compression is 9.5:1 with TWR forged pistons...oil holes were drilled on skirt insead of slot for added strength
7)tranny is 700r4 with shift kit
8)hooker headers and borla muffler

well that's about it, i'm just lookin for a rough estimate as to what power numbers this should put out, as the owner isn't sure. well thanks for yalls help

i just e-mailed him about what heads they are, but lets just say for example that they're stock L98 heads. all i know is they're 350 heads, but i'll find out specifically soon. but for now, we'll just say L98.

Around 325hp/370ft-lbs I would say.

(Assuming shorty headers)

Maybe I'm the idiot - But don't you make a 383 by taking a 350 block and putting in the 400 crank?

.060" over.

.030" over is a 377.

i'm not sure about that...i was told that a 400 block with a 350 crank is a 383, but it might be the other way around. but either way, this is a 400 block with a 350 crank....whatever c.i. that turns out to be

Depends on teh intake also, but that's easy to change.

I'd guess 340 HP @ about 4700 and 425 ft-lbs @ about 3900.

Stock cast-iron 2-barrel intake with 4-barrel adapter?

Super Victor?

There's a certain amount of potential variation involved, I think.

got an e-mail back today about the carb:

"The intake is a weiand accelerator. Part number WND-7547 in summits catolog. Carb is 750 vac sec, square bore ( all four venturi the same size), with 50cc accelrator pump with a .052 squarter, down-leg boosters up front and standard in the back, with a low tention spring for the back two barrels. The choke is milled completely off, and its powder coated inside and out. It has two corner idle. Thats all i can think of"

he had all this done by Davinci Carbs, and again, he had it bored out to 865cfm....hope this helps

a 383 is definitely a 350 block with a 400 crank

a 400 block .30 over with a 350 crank is a 377 not a 383

a 350 is a 4" bore and a 3.48" stroke

a 400 is a 4.125" bore and a 3.75" stroke

a 383 is a 4.030" bore and a 3.75" stroke

and a 377 is a 4.155" bore and 3.48" stroke

being a 400 block (4.125) and a 350 crank (3.48) if it were .30 over it would be a 377

formula for cubic inchs is approx.

(bore)*(bore)*(stroke)*(# of cylinders)*(0.78573994)

a 377 is a very strong motor its a big bore small stroke engine tha will rev like crazy if you build it that way. think of it as a giant bore 350.

if its got forged pistons thats a good start, found out what the rest of the bottom end is, if its built, get some monstor 210cc heads and a big cam, and a single plane intake (i.e. victor jr.) and you'll be revvin your way to the 11's with good traction, assuming some killer heads and a giant loppy cam. in its current state, the stock heads are choking it, and the current cam will max out the engine at too low of an rpm.

There are two ways to make a 383.

One is with a 350 block and a 400 crank, BUT....

a 400 block bored .060" over and a 350 crank also makes a 383.

4.185" x 3.48" = 382.96"

That's what I said back on July 12th.

Guess I should have drawn a picture. Sorry.

I wouldn't want to build a 400 sbc with a .060 bore... Good chance she'll go BOOM! I am sure that is whay no one builds 383 engine by using a 400sbc with a 350 crank. Mind you it would eliminate the need to worry about balacign the crank now wouldn't it?? So maybe a 377 is the way to go??? Still ahve lots of torq, and a nice reving engine, and yet you don't have to worry about the internal/external balancing problems correct???
