Plans for my slowmaro

Right now i have a 92 Camaro RS with the 3.1 L and we all know that the v6's are good on gas but just dont do it for you when you are up against someone. Im joining the marines and before i go there i would like to start on a project. I want to put either a 350 or 383 in it, and i know its not going to be easy but the car i have doesnt have many miles on it and i got it for a really nice price so i dont want to go buy another one, but what i really wanted to do is start building an engine while i just drive this v6 around. I was just wonderig what would be the best way to get a 383 should i buy a short block and just start throwing **** onto it or what or should i buy a crate engine, money isnt really a big issue i got hit by a car when i was 4 and got 65k from it and im about to get 20k of it here and i can spend alittle of it just gotta put some back for my kid due in Feb. so before this kid pops out haha i need to start working on this cause my woman or my womans mom or my mom will let me start a project with a kid so i gotta get it going now ha. So my real question is whats the best way to start, short block, crate, or LS1 or whatever and put a stroker kit in it i just need some answers thanks guys
Mitch
PS.. if i dont make sense just ignore me i didnt get much sleep last night and i wanted to put this post up before i go back to sleep thanks cya

The first thing you should do is buy a wrecked 8cyl car so you have everything you need to swap over. Then get a crate motor and a trans form some one like pro built automatics. And a 9inch or 12bolt rear.

An engine shop around here has 383s longblocks for $1433... You could buy one of them put an intake and carb,or a TPI setup Maybe some better heads or even a cam swap and have a BAD motor for not that much.

Get a wrecked V8 car to take all the parts you'll need to drop the motor in, but get one with a good front end suspension if you can, then you can use the stiffer V8 springs for your car. I don't think you absolutely need those, but it will support the heavy engine better.
