454 vs ls-1
Now i have the great and infamous 305, and of course it has to go but until then i was curious what would be a better engine to cram in there the ls-1 or the 454? and which one would be better to put money into and get more horsepower?

Id go with the LS1....for the reduction in weight...plus the power output....you cant beat it. They install isnt that hard...I just got done putting a 01 LS1 in my 91 Z. From what Ive seen....its easier than the BBC swap....plus your car will handle alot better. Just my .02

LS1 has the potential for being emissions-legal (tested as a later F-body). 454 does not.

Its gonna be hard to beat the torque of a 454 with an engine with 110ci less...
I think both have their advantages, but I'd go with the 454 personally.

But if you want a "daily driver" and/or have to have smog crap, LS1.

Yeah...but you dont need the extra torque if you take 150lbs off the front of the car....instead of adding 200lbs. Im partial to the LS1....I love BB's..just not in a uni-body car.

DO you want handeling? A BBC will add a hole lot more grunt and will probably be faster in the quater. All the added weight in the front of the car will also kill the handeling. An LS1 won't have the grunt of the 454 but handeling will be immensly better. Not to mention you are significally lightening the front of the car giving it better weight distrobution and increasing handeling capabilities.

Add a torque converter with a high STR and you will have all the grunt you will ever need. Factory redline at 6200 RPM. With cam and springs 6300-6400.:hail:

I had mine out on the road today...and WOW....its so awesome. Ive drove a few BBC cars before and drive my 383 with all kinds of torque...not to mention my truck....and this LS1 with the GM hot cam is awesome....it just keeps revving.....hehe. Im very happy....

What did you end up doing for your harness? I know what you mean by the way the LS1 keeps pulling. The higher it revs the harder it pulls. It feels like there is a thurster on the back pushing the car forward.
The performance gods have been honored by the LS1 offering. Now let us honor them again with sacrifical mustangs and imports.

I actually ended up using the Painless harness($400)
But, it went together nicely.....and with alot less headache. The only tricky part was wiring up the tranny/speedo...but other than that....it was sweet. I took my car to a local speedshop and they tuned the cam for me....took about a day. Im supposed to go back to get some dyno tuning done as soon as time/money allows. The LS1 is the GREATEST thing to come from the general in a long time.......
