motor swap
Hey guys
I am new to the third gen board and was wonderng if I was able to find a nice camaro(preferably mid 80's) with a V-6, how hard would it be to swap out to a 350. I have a motor and looking to possibly sell my 80 camaro to put a nice little driver together. I was thinking a berlinetta with a stout small block would be a great sleeper car.
I know I would have to put a tranny in it (TH-350 or 200R4). WOuld I have to modify the cross members, driveshsft, COMPUTERS, mounts/bushiongs, etc. I want to keep a/c as well.
Thanks!

There is a butt-load of stuff that needs to be changed. The best way to accomplish it is to have a donor car with a V8 and all the trimmings, so you can transfer all that stuff to the V6 car that you plan to drive - even if you don't use the V8 from the donor car.
I didn't know what all was involved when I got into this. I was told by a local "used parts dealer" that it wasn't worth it - I didn't listen, obviously. But the truth is, it isn't worth it.
If you want a sleeper, get a plain-jane car that came with a V8 from the factory and put your stout SBC in it. My nephew has an '86 Berlinetta with a 305 in it for sale - they aren't that hard to find. Forget the V6 car.
