water pump and gasket problems...vortec

What water pump do I want? I'm taking my 305 serp setup off my 87' iroc and moving it onto the 350, should I take the water pump or buy a new one? long or short with the 305 AC/alt etc setup?

i have protopline vortecs.....it was bad enough 2 sockets were destroyed since they had to be put in the mill and shaved down so the socket would fit and we could torque the nuts in....now the summit rebuild kit head gaskets don't line up, and they have nothing to hold up to (ie, bolts don't go thru any part of the gasket to hold it in place and the intake ports are shrouded)

why edelbrock doesn't include the gasket with the performer vortec intake....no idea....

any help would be great....cause once these two problems are solved.....my 350 is going in

Conventional wisdom says replace wear items such as water pump, starter, thermostat, etc., when doing an engine swap. Easier to do now than when the engine is back in and you have to get down to the part when it fails. For the water pump, just get a replacement for your 305 application.

You need Vortec-specific intake gaskets, obviously. They don't include them with the manifold because people often have the gasket from some other source (such as a rebuild kit), or they want to use their favorite type. If you would have gotten the rebuild kit for a Vortec engine, it would have had the right intake manifold gaskets (but then you may have needed something else different for the shortblock, such as oil pan gaskets).

Ok, but the water pump I need is the same one on the 305? Is that short or long? Summit sells the vortec gasket for like 20$....

also....with an edelbrock performer vortec manifold, will i clear my 87' iroc hood with a standard air cleaner or am i going to have to use a shorter air cleaner with a filter on top?
