383 flexplate questions

I'm having trouble nailing down which flexplate everyone is using for a 2 piece rear seal .030 over 350 block/400 crank 383 with the 700R4 trans. What is the tooth count needed for the new flex plate??? The engine will be externally balanced to the new 6" rod/.030 piston/Scatt stroker crank (350 mains) rotating assembly with a stock 400 type damper from Summit or Jegs. Part numbers and/or links helpful.

I haven't seen anything but a 168-tooth, 2-piece externally-balanced flexplate. But, I haven't seen everything.

Seem to hear a lot of complaints about starters when going to 168-tooth, but a mini seems to solve that issue.

You can put a balance plate on a stock flywheel and use it.

The balance plate idea I like, but I haven't seen one for the 700R4 trans listed. If the 700R4 takes the same standard 168 or 153 tooth flexplates with the TH350/TH400 stall patterns, and the early two piece rear main crank pattern, then I would be fine. All of which I've been able to find listing the three speed transmissions as applications, but nothing about the 700R4.

i just used the stock 400 flexplate when i put my 400 in... had to go to a staggered bolt starter to make it work, but no problems bolting up to my 700r4... we got like 7 of those flexplates laying around...

If you have your rotating assembly balance, the balancer should be able to use what ever plate you plan on using with your engine. A good engine shop will balance your crank with the dampner and plate attached to the crank. This is how Ohio Crankshaft Balanced mine for the 383 in my '69 camaro.
