´90 rollercam 305 worth it?

The 305 that´s in my 1984 z28 right now is pretty much worn out, its a 305 from 1978 that the previous owner put in it. Now i found a 305TBI with a roller cam out of 1990 rs that i want to install. Are these engines any good and can i still use my old intake, carb and distributor with this engine or do i need a new intake?
What kind of HP can i expect with it ? (the car still has the stock High output exhaust system in it).
Thanks.

The 305 TBI you are looking at has 170 hp and 255 ft-lbs. By no means a serious engine. Your old 305's proably make less power and are not roller blocks and have a different intake manifold. I do not believe that they are TBI but you can re-use your old carb set-up with a newer (1987 and older). I am pretty you can use this block with a new intake. The only problems you may have is I am not sure if a roller block has the provisions for a mecahnical fuel pump. It has the bolts holes and such but I am not sure about the internal workings. If you have an elctric in-tank pump than most likely you will be okay. As for the distributor I believe the cam gears are the same but I may be wrong. Experts needed on this one. Pretty sure it will work no problem.

You might also check to see if the flywheel is gonna work if you have a manual. The only thing that I can think of. Hope that it helps.

The '90 TBI heads are performance junk, as is the cam. If the original 305 was the high output version, it was a higher power version than the '90 is (and no, the '84 wasn't TBI). The '78 heads are suspect, too.

Any of the '82-'86 305 heads would be better, and would fit the current intake manifold. An aftermarket performance cam for the '90 engine would be nice as well. The '90 block should have provision for a mechanical fuel pump. The '90 engine probably still has a flex plate on it, which won't cause any problems getting it hooked up to the car (assuming it is 153-tooth).
