LG4 to TPI???

Alright peeps, heres the deal:

I currently have an 86 Z-28 that came with an LG4, but a little over a year ago that engine was swapped for some POS 305 shortblock that was purchased for a whopping 100 bucks. I used the intake, oil pan, accs., etc. from the LG4 (NOT THE CARB)on this "new" engine. But deleted all of the smog stuff as well as the electronic control, hence, the change of the carb...

This was all done because I have a fairly new 350 4-bolt main in the garage Cast # 10066036 with all of the internals. I'd like to rebuild this engine, and would also like to swap to a TPI setup.

First of all would a TPI setup fit on this block? Secondly, what would I need in order to make this happen?

I'm a complete noob to the whole world of fuel injection, I have been raised on carbs and would like to go in a different direction...

One last thing, does a TPI have a certain intake? hmmm, I really am lost on this but willing to learn everything it takes...

Thanks, and sorry for the long post

TPI is a completely different system from carb from the intake ports up. The engines themselves are not significantly different.

There are some subtle details that are different, such as the vast majority of TPIs were '87-up, and the center two intake manifold bolts from '87-up were at a different angle than the other bolts, unlike '86-older. So, the intake base needs to match the type of heads you have.

But, in order for this to work, you need all of the TPI hardware, including intake base, runners, plenum, throttle body, fuel rails, injectors, harness, computer, sensors, throttle cables, and a high-pressure electric fuel pump (factory put it in the tank, but an external one can be used). There were also different versions of TPI made, so you need to make sure everything you get is the right type.

You've got a lot of homework to do before you decide to attempt this.

heads...

Are their quite a few of heads that will work with the different types of tpi system, or do the heads have to be from an origional tpi engine?

Thanks for your info...

The LG4 and LB9 used the same heads. The only change came in '87 with the bolt angle I mentioned above - and the '87 LG4 & LB9 still used the same heads then.

So, you just need to match the TPI base to the head type that the 350 has. But, you can elongate the bolt holes in the base to get it to match.
