Remove Intake to Remove Engine???
I have an 86 Z-28 w/ an LG4 and am taking my engine out right now. Does the intake have to be removed to hook up the cherry picker. I thought it did, but looking at everything, their are two brackets. One on front driver side, connected to A/C, that has a loop in it. And one on rear passenger side, with a loop in it. Can I just hook the hoist to those or not.
Here is a pic of what I'm talking about, this is a pic of a 305 tbi. The bracket is right behind the valve cover and to the right of the compressor.

thanks

Ok, so dont' remove it. So is their any point taking the carb off. Just leave it also and remove all of the lines going to it.
Also, can you let me which accesory stays, and which goes before lifting?
Thanks

the brackets your talking about are what the factory used to put the engine in with. I would pull the carb off the motor just for safety sake if nothing else, the can be pretty fragile and things can find a way of breaking them.
all the accessories can stay with the exception of the A/C compressor (unless you want to remove or drain the system). I would remove the radiator and fan assembly just to give you some working room in front of the motor and pull the dist. so you don't jamb it against the firewall and mess it up.
just make sure (quadruple check) that you have all the hoses and wire unhooked fromt he motor and accessories be fore you start, with that said lift the motor SLOWLY so you don't break the one line or wire you missed. don't laugh, it happens to everybody. untill you have done a R&R on one of the cars you can't know where everything is, after doing my swap I realized why they charged so much for the car new-----they put about $20,000 worth of hoses and wire in them------

I'm getting there
I've pulled off the A/c and the alternator, as well as the distrubutor (that was fun without one of those 90* box wrenches). Now I've got to go under, and remove exhaust, starter, and torque converter bolts.
Any more tips, thanks for all the help so far, I need this guidance...

This is taken from another post:
17) Remove the three bolts holding the converter to the flexplate. They have locktite on them and are relatively impossible to remove. Remember to clean them and put locktite back on when installing. If you haven't removed the starter yet, use that to bump the engine over, or if you have, turn the engine by the crank bolt. You'll have to use a breaker bar to hold the crank bolt while you take off the torque converter bolts.
Will I have to do that with my Automatic, and what does he mean by the crank bolt, All the up front?
