383 Swap What will happen????

Hey guys , need a couple answers

Ive got the motor out of my car right now, and am a week or so away of the new 383 drop in. Im using most everything in my sig.

The question basically is I have a stock 700r4, that---shifted good with original 350. My question is if I leave the stock 700r4 and stock torque converter in, what will happen??? will they both immiediatly break from the 383's power output???? My stock converter stalls around 1900. Will I even be able to put it around town??

What will happen at WoT???

Well just wondering, cause I plan on swapping in a new tranny within a couple months, but just wondering if it would hold up for a while.

Is there anything I can do to make it hold up more??

Let me know thanks....

converters can obviously help as much as hurt your performance. personally i'd put it together and see how it works. knowing that if your engine really makes the power it should a stock or even stock rebuilt 700-r won't hold up.

That engine shouldn't have any trouble getting moving at 1900 RPMs. More stall would make more torque/power, but it won't suffer.

(Your sig says 2200 stall, but you said 1900 in your post - which is it?)

I fail to see the problem here. If you are going to swap in a new tranny in a couple months just baby it until then. It will only break if you abuse it. Just like everyone says you can't run a T-5 behind a 350 or it will break. That is such a bunch of crap. I've had a T-5 behind a 350 for a year and a half now and it's just fine. There's no voodoo magic going on here. I just don't beat the **** out of it. Just take it easy on it until you get a chance to do your tranny swap and you will be fine.

thanks guys, well I know it says 2200. but the stock is actually like 1900 or in the area of that. What i really want is a good 2500 or 2600 stall. But like i said, i think thad be a better idea just to do the converter with the tranny, so thats my reasoning, cause what if i get a different tranny?? so ya know. but thanks alot guys. Still curious though, will i even be able to punch it just a couple times?? well let me know thanks, cuase i know ill be dying to see what this thing can do, I ll post pics soon!! thanks

built right the...the 700r4 could handle it but a tranny like that would cost between 1200.00 and 1600.00 depending on where ya go or who ya know. The stock 700r4 is weak in many places and its hard to determine what will break first but it certainly wont handle much abuse. If you stall it your likely to snap its weak input shaft or gernade the sunshell. it wasnt designed to take abuse so dont try it. Also determining a stall speed is difficult. The convertor you have may or maynot stall at 1900 behind that weak 350 but it will certainly change when the torque of a larger engine is applied. That would futher stress that weak trans and develope more heat that could burn thattranny up for sure.

Go with a turbo 350 and a 32-3800 stall converter. Trust me, you wont be dissapointed. Well unless you prefer gas mileage and highway driving over performance.
