Cleaning the block?
Hey guys, quick question.
I have my 305 at school for my shop project (rebuilding). How do I get the block to be REALLY clean? I've used a scraper, then a angle grinder with a wire wheel, then degreaser, and then a scraper again. I can't get it tanked right now, because its at school and on an engine stand, and I have no way to get the block out of the shop.
I just cant get anything it the tight places, like the "caves" on either side of the timing cover, or above the oil filter.
How do you guys get these places clean?

hot tank, preasure washer, car wash if you can't use any of these methods i'd be real leary of reassembling it. pull the oil plugs and clean it, sounds like all you're worried about is external cleaning, if so you're over looking a big part of it. gun brushes work good for small passages

Castrol SuperClean works pretty well. Normal spray engine cleaner if you're talking about oily gunk and can hose it off somewhere.
