BEST CAM for a Vortec HEADED 383 tpi?????

EVERbody I need opinions.

My setup is listed in sig. Im litarlly days away from My 383 drop in, but I just cant brush this cam thing out of my head. Its driving me crazy. I ordered the comp cams 12-236-3 with these specs:

CAM 1

XM262H
218/224 duration@ .50
462/477 lift -W 1.5 rockers
112 LSA

The thing I cant get out of my head is that I think I might be making a mistake by not going bigger, and stepping one up to this cam:

CAM 2

XM268H
224/230 duration@.50
477/488 lift w/1.5 Rocker
112 LSA

I JUST CANT GET this off my chest.. I dont want to make a mistake, I want to put the best cam in the motor.

Basically I want a vote,, WHICH CAM SHOULD I GO WITH????Let me know asap,, Im Reordering Monday. Oh yeah these are Hydraulic cams. Supposedly you can run bigger cams with bigger Ci's??? Didnt know if that was true. setup below. LEt me know...

With the fuel injectioin, and the 1.6 rollers i'd stay with the 218/224 cam. the 1.6's will ad a smidge of duration with the lift, having it end up around 221/227 which is just fine for a very streetable efi 383. you'll be fine with that.

I used to have the 268H comp cam in my motor. It is a good cam. I had the carb version with the 110 separation angle though. I switched to the HOT cam and it is WAY better in my opinion. Tons more torque and it still pulls as high as the 268. If you have your original roller block I would recommend going with a roller cam, they offer good vacuum, high torque and higher lifts than a flat cam for a given duration. If you just have an older block then definately go with the 268, it has a cool choppy idle and revs to like 6000. I was very happy with that cam for a LONG time.

HOT cam specs
218 in .492 w/1.5 .525 w/1.6
228 ex .492 w/1.5 .525 w/1.6

Oh yeah, remember that Vortec heads flow the best at around .500 in of lift.

My vote would be for the 218/224 without knowing more of your specs and goals. You might even consider and custom 220/220 grind. If you have an auto I would recomend a 114 LSA.
