ECOtech super car.
ECOtech super car.
Hi is me again, I'm the one who posted the AWD camaro topic, I know it was a long shot, but I'm just trying to have a different aproach to tuning one of my favorit cars the 3th gen camaro.
here is my IDEA I would like to start with a 4 cylinder camaro, swap that egine and to put what is my opinion the best I-4 GM ever builted!
the car must weight alt least 2700 lbs and have 500HP to the wheels, have a balance of a road racer and a 1/4 mile drag car. all of this is posible, but your question probably is why a 4 cylinder engine? here is the answere: look at the NHRA summit sport compact series, and you will see how the GM Pro F.W.D cavalier piloted by nelson jollos is the best there is and matt in the Pro R.W.D is a verry competitive driver, both using the 2.2 ECOtech pumping more than 1200 HP, this GM power plant do that with alot of stock component and a nearly stock head.
so for this engine to make 500hp is not much problem, ofcours with turbo and everything that is neet to make a 150 HP nonturbo engine to a beast..
here is another answere why. do your math: which of this car is faster more nimble balance?
A - a stock camaro with a 500 hp SB
B - a stock camaro with a 500 hp BB
C - a 2700lbs camaro with a 500 hp 2.2L I-4 ECOtech
I think I'll stick with C.....

And I suppose you have the money for this? A SBC or BBC will be a HELL of a lot cheaper to build... And how streetable do you think I4 is going to be? And what of torque, our cars are heavy?
dude, wait 2 years and get a Solstice. Wont have your magical number of 500hp, but it will be a light, 2 seater RWD supercharged ecotec 240hp for under 25k. Its Bob Lutz's baby and was recently green lighted.

I wouldnt do the ecotech thing. A neighbor of mine does prototype/show cars and one was a hopped up cavalier or sunfire (I forget which) with a 550hp ecotech POS. They never did get the car to run right, and you have to remember that GM's best were working on getting the car running properly. I'm sure someone can... but if those guys had a hard time, you had better know what you are doing.

GM has an eco in a new sun fire with 1000 HP+ and still front wheel drive. now how the hell..... leave it up to GM to invent and create the greatest stuff around.

Ive read those ecotec engines can take TONS of power on the stock bottom end (turbod of course) if you ever watch drag races, they use those in the cavalier and sunbird, and they are running 9's. I'm not sure if they hit 8's yet. They are still FWD (which completely baffles me at how they hook so well)
cheers

and then you have a big heavy car with a high hp low TQ peaky engine...
no, if i was going to make a turbo 4 cyl, id go the small 2seater car route....
a fiero would be a great car for that... not a camaro though.

Anything's possible if you have the money...
However I wouldn't waste my money on a 4 banger Camaro, but that's just me...
