I think I found a nearly free 454 and am considering trying to fit it into my 83. I know I'll need to change the motor mounts, but what about bolting up to the tranny/relocating accesories/hood clearance, etc. I know that there are some out there who have done (or at least attempted) this engine swap, and I'd like advice or ridicule. I've seen a Z that had a big block and the conseqent bent frame, but still.... I drool.

I did it about 3 years ago on my Camaro. Drove it on the street for 2 years. It was a 461. No need to change the motor mounts. I used manifolds. Had to massage the passenger firewall a bit due to the exit angle on the pass. manifold.
It was fun and fast but drove like crap. Always ran kind of hot. Totally nose heavy. Never did bust my 7.5 though.
It's not the greatest car to do it too, but it can be done rather easily. I'm rather amused by the people that think it's some "mystical voodoo" to get it to work.

Your site is great!! very detailed, very through. and slightly intimidating. After reading your site's modification list (cut that, weld this, hammer here, kick there) I think I'm going to opt out of this one and stick with the small block. Maybe another time... thanks for the info-
