Project 82 LT1 goes to the track..

Well, the project ran the 1/4 for the first time and I am pretty happy with it.. I kept with my real world philosophy here are the stats...no burnout..

weight: with 3/4 full tank 3395 lbs no driver..
Tires: 275/40/17 KDWs 35psi..
Gears: 3.42 auburn posi, T56..
Suspension: tight, every bolt on..
Engine: 96 lt1 obd1 conv, meziere pump, 1.52.1 pro magnums, edelbrock headers, borla catback, 52mm throttle body, ZO6 maf, ATI superdamper..program by MadZ28.com..

My friends times.. reac: .815
60ft: 2.214
1/8th: 8.8 @82.80
1/4: 13.525 @ 103.99
He beat the new M3 in the other lane which ran a 13.639 @ 105.. I was happy with that..

My crappy first time ever run.. reac: .725
60ft: 2.627 (spun in 1st)
1/8th: 9.77 @ 80.35
1.4: 14.591 @ 100.96

Ok, I am happy thus far, since it is full trim with cold tires and driven daily... cam and heads come next... just wanted to share..

Weight was 3395 with no driver.
I was the one that weighed the car as well as drove the 2 mid 13 sec passes.

Looks roughly right to me. At sea level at my local track (Cecil County Dragway in Cecil, MD) dead stock LS-1s usually run about 82 MPH in the eighth. LT-1s a smidge slower. So you're making about the HP you should. Obviously, ET could be a bit better, but that's HIGHLY traction and gear dependent, especially only running 1/8th mile.

My supercharged Malibu traps 89-90 MPH in the eighth, but turns a pathetic 8.8 second ET (2.2 60 foot, some spinning).

My friend's 383-powered 72 Chevelle only traps 82 MPH but gets to the line in 8.1 seconds, with DRs, steep gears, high stall and a dead-hook off the line against the converter.

I beat him by 7-8 MPH but he takes me by 7 tenths!!! That's almost purely a function of traction vs. no traction, plus his high stall converter giving him a lot of torque multiplication out of the hole.

Haha, if that isn't the truth.

Any ideas what you are looking for? I know stock LT4 is getting mild to me. I want more. I'm thinking fully ported LT4's, GM847 cam, T-56 and 4.10's, later on down the road 396 stroker kit......

We'll see what happens

Good times with the car though.

Damnit, I just thought of something. If you got your 60 ft down to the same 2.0 I'm running, you'd only be running a tenth or two off what I am......which doesnt add up. Thats it, I'm throwing the b*&!$ on the dyno this Christmas and getting it tuned. This sucks.

yep I noticed that.. my car is tuned via email by madz28.com he does good stuff.. since I had LT1 edit unlimited programming only cost me 60 bucks..worth a look.. there is a guy in the area here with ported LT4s and a custom cam running 452 rwhp with the stock bottom end.. so you are looking at a good choice going with those heads.. stock they are good, ported they are pretty tough to beat..

I am really happy with the time the car cut, plus it was suffering a low voltage problem at the time so it just might be faster..

my plans are for a XE 224/230 or 230/236 cam on my 1.52 pro-mags.. I will be porting the heads myself and adding some isky 215 springs, titanium retainers and a slightly larger exhaust valve.. After that.. well the ZEX or NX nitrous kits are looking good.. but that is way down the road..

You are right about the 396 I was thinking of that too.. for now I am working this one but later since the platform of the car is set for an LT1 and the fuel system is up to the task I will go large for the next engine.. no LS1s here maybe the next car (if there is one)

I have watched the progress of your car for a while, I used alot of your info when I put mine together.. Good stuff, I know you are having fun with it! oh and thanks for making some mistakes so I didn't have too

Well I originally had mine programmed by Brian at pcmforless.com. I think he did a pretty good job but I know it can get better on the dyno. It will be interesting to see what happpens.

The cams you are looking at are good choices. I just want something bigger to get the most power I can possibly get out of the ole LT1. My brother has a '78 T/A with a 462 BBC in it. I can't have him beating me by too much. I've been considering nitrous for a while, but I'd rather get more n/a first, then think about the giggle juice.

Glad I could help with the mistakes Yeah we made a few along the way, but thats part of the "fun" of doing stuff like this, you never know what you're going to run into. Just glad I could help out someone else along the way.

I think, now that I have time at school, I'm going to start working on a good LT1 swap site. Only problem is I don't have any photos of the process, just the end result. I can make autocad drawings of some of the stuff and export them, but other than that I don't have anything to show how to do some of the stuff. Got any ideas? We all really need to get together and put all of our experiences and thoughts together to help out other people that want to do it. Maybe I'm getting overly optimistic on the subject, but thats just me.

Hey Guys,

I have some decent pics of both the LT1 and T56 swap if you're looking to put together a decent swap site.

Let me know and I can e-mail them to you.

How are you guys tuning your computers. I will need to do this when I finish my 400 swap but have no idea. Do you just email the person the specs of your engine and then load it into the computer on the car. What are the next steps you take.

I have LT1 edit and a cable.. with that I can just get Ion from madz28.com to email me a file and I upload it..

check the website and send him an email.. he will ask for all your performance mods and can either send you a program to load or you can mail him your computer he will flash it and send it back.. there is also pcmsforless.com but I prefer madz28, he is really good..

Sounds good, I'll see what I can do.

TransAm12Sec - I'm running a Centerforce Dual-Friction kit. Awesome clutch, grabs great everytime.

bes217 - I had pcmforless.com do mine. You get the cable from AKMCables and whoever does the program can e-mail it to you, plug your laptop into your ALDL port, load it up, and you're good to go.
