need help on engine upgrade
ive got an 86 iroc with a 305 tpi. i am going to put a 350 with roughly 400 horse and torque.
My questions are:
1. will my 700r4 hold up
2. will my 3.23 non posi hold up
3. i want to use my 305 tpi set up; will there be any problems
4. can i just use any 350 tpi chip or do i have to have one custom made for my engine package
5. do i need a high performance fuel pump; i already have a performance fuel pump
6. i have heard of people going from v6 to v8 and still passing emissions. i do plan on using my emissions set up will it be possible for me to pass
Any info will be appreciated. thanks

Your drivetrain will hold up if you do not drive it hard. You will probably be able to keep your fuel pump. What is it?

Here's my two cents worth to your questions. And thats all they are worth.
1. Maybe. Rebuilt for sure
2. I don't know.
3. I don't think you can make 400 BHP with a stock TPI system with 350CI. You will die above 4200-4400RPM. The stock TPI flows 185 cfm and figuring 2HP per cfm that works out to a maximum of 370HP if everything is perfect. To achieve your 400BHP you will have to buy an aftermarket base and runners and port your plenum. A modified TPI with plenty of porting will flow 220CFM and with a 52MM throttle body. That will get you your 400BHP.
4. Yes you will need a new eprom tailored to your engine.
5. Your fuel pump should work however if it has a lot of miles I would get it replaced.
6. I live in California and know of a couple of cars with horsepower around the 400+ range with TPI and they pass smog with no problem.
I'am shooting for 300RWHP with mine which works out to 375BHP. Good luck with what ever you decide. Allen

everything should hold up fine i think. i have about the same power you want and mines fine, waiting for the tranny to die though. with a stock tpi setup, i highly doubt you can pump that much power through the 350...and yes you will need to change up the computer or get it reproged. for the emmissions, you should be good i dont see why you would fail if you transfered all your emmissions crap over to the 350 and have a cat. i think all the emo junk was the same in the 305 and 350 tpi cars. well, it looks the same anyhow. and oh yes, the pump will work no problem.

ok so the tpi system seems like a bad idea for the horsepower i want. i ve been told that a victor jr manifold with a 750 carb from holly would be the best recommendation. my biggest concern is passing e check, so does it matter what i do with the engine or is it just the numbers that e check is concerned about. e check will be the death of all of us. At least to thoughs who have to pass. thanks
p.s. the fuel pump is a masters fuel pump but i cant seem to find any specs on how much the pump flow but i is only a few months old. hopefully some of that info helps

i have a 700 doublepumper on my car right now, i think the 750 would be over kill. do you have a stick or a 700r4? if you got the 700, you have to get a tv made ez kit... so much better then fooling around with brackets and bolts. i have to invest in one myself.
