Doing LT1 engine and interior....
So I was wondering, If i get the whole harness, ECM, the engine, tranny, and all the interior pieces, with the exception of some fabrication, this will all just plug in and work like normal correct? I know I'm gonna have to splice the head and taillights along with the rear defroster, but that's no biggie. Also did the 97 LT1 Camaros have VATS? Will I need the key for that engine or is my ignition gonna be ok? And finally, If I do need that key, will the trunk and door locks from the 97 bolt in and work without fabrication? Thanks guys, I have read every post on this conversion, and these are the only unanswered questions for now. LAter!

Yes, the '97 has VATS. What you can do is keep your keys, just get a new VATS module from GM, plug it in, and when you go to start the car it will automatically detect and "memorize" your key.
As far as the swap, its not plug and play like you think it is, but it will make it a little easier to do everything at once like you are talking about. Basically you will just have to splice in the chassis harnesses that are already in the car and are different from the 4th gen ones, such as lighting and all that stuff.

I only meant plug-n-play in terms of the ECM, Dash, engine, cluster, all things associated with the parts that I'm getting will hook up to each other and work like they did originally. I know that there will be fabrication in mounting the engine, and also the fuel lines and A/C. Will I have to fabricate anything to put in the 4l60E tranny? Thanks for your help TexasLT1, your car is the one that made me want this swap, and your previous posts are perfect for information. I truly admire your work. Later!

Wow, thanks man. glad they helped out. I'm putting together a swap guide with the help of some of the others that have done the swap, look for it after the first of the year, finals are slowing me down.
For the 4L60E, I'm pretty sure you will have to make a custom crossmember just the same as a T-56 swap.

Someone has made their car like you are talking about. I actually want to do this with a trans am interior. I was wondering if my roadmaster LT1's wiring would match the trans am's. It is also a pain to get all of the wires out. I started to take the interior wiring out of the raodmaster and that was a Bitc#! Needless to say i don't have that harness! I'll look for that post i saw and maybe we could talk to him.
