Anybdy drop their motor out the bottom?

Like unbolt the k-member and all? I need a new k-member, but I think I'm gonna wait till I do the motor swap to do it, but would there be any problem just dropping them out the bottom at once, then sliding the new motor and k-member into place? Or would it be easier to do it the conventional way?

A while back somebody had a photo of the engine having been taken out that way by a shop they had working on their car. It was an LT1 or LS1 swap, IIRC, so taking it out that way made a little bit of sense.

The main issues I see are getting the body up high enough to clear the engine, and having a non-roller body while the engine is out.

You are correct sir, in fact it is one of the links on this page. thirdgenresource.com did the L98 to Ls1 swap and lowered the whole k-member then just lowered the body back onto the engine and k-member assemblie.

Thats how the cars were assembled. I personally think its easier to just pull the engine out the top on a thirdgen, but to each their own.

OH yeah I agree that'd it be easier, but since I had to change the k-member anyways, I figured maybe I'd just take em out as one piece. But I don't think I can get the car high enough with the jack and stands that I have. So out the top it is.

that's how I got my engine out without an engine lift! what a bad idea that was! i still have the engine though.

I didn't remove the K member, I just unbolted the heads and transmission and disconnected the mounts, then I tipped it out through the transmission tunnel, it barely made it. I still did quite the same thing, lifted the car high enough to clear the motor. I prefer to use an engine lift any day!
