Best heads to use?
Best heads to use?
Hi everyone,
I am new here and I would like some help with something. I have a '91 camaro RS. It has a 305 TBI in it at the moment. I am building a 350 for it. The block and crank is at the shop now. I am looking to get about 350-400 Hp out of this when I am done. I considered the 383 stroker setup but as this is my first build I am going to stick with a 350 rebuild. I have done research on this topic and I have ordered a decent rebuild kit that I am happy with. The guy at the shop wanted to know if I wanted him to do the balancing when my kit arrives. What is involved in balancing and will I need to have this done? If you could describe it in as much detail as you can. I am trying to figure out which heads to use while the block is in the shop. I am still new at this so bear with me. I was told not to use the TBI off the 305 as it will not supply enough fuel. (This car is just going to be a street cruiser, and I am also trying to learn how to rebuild an engine in the process so I dont want a crate engine) so please keep this in mind if you answer to this. I was wondering what heads you guys suggest for this rebuild. I have heard people say vortech heads but wouldn't I need a different intake? I also have a 4bbl carb and intake off of the 350 engine that I am rebuilding. The engine is out of a '74 4x4. Anyway hope I provided engough details for you guys and gals to respond to this. If you need more info to make a better response just ask. Thanks.

How much do you have to spend, what cam are you planning on running? If you have some money, go with AFR, they are amazing. If you are on a budget, get the vortecs and a single plan intake and an adapter for your tbi. whoever told you that TBI couldn't supply enough fuel was wrong. Head over to the TBI forum and you'll see plenty of guys running STOCK tbi (different injectors of course) on some pretty impressive engines. TBI does, however, grossly limit your air intake since it has crappy 1 11/16" bores. but check your funds, and search around. There are a millino applications for heads that will suite your desired purpose.
