Since you already caught him in the lie about the "Vortec" thing, how do you know that any other word out of his mouth is the truth?
There's one other lie in there too. The heads that came from the factory on the motors in 85 Vettes at least, which may or may not having anything to do with whether these "came out of" or "off of" some Vette (the back seat perhaps? maybe the cargo area? sitting on the roof? "came out of" or "came off of" is pretty vague) are different from the ones that came from the factory on the motors in later ones. The early ones were cast iron, the later ones were aluminum.
So now that you know clearly that this person is plainly trying to rip you off, get the stars out of your eyes about the supposed "Vette" thing, and do some research. Ignore the newbie "Vette" BS and find out what they really are.
Get the head casting numbers. Those tell all. There are no more secrets once you have those.
The mere fact that the heads are "out of a Vette" (probably the single most popular sucker line in all of hot-rodding) doesn't guarantee that they're particularly good for anything. Even if the factory had put them in the Vette before they were taken out of it, they're still fairly ordinary heads, except that in some of those years they were aluminum.

If they are the L98 heads I wouldnt bother. There are too many cheap aftermarket heads nowadays that flow much better unless he is going to give them to you...

Be aware also that truck motors from Chevrolet were called "Vortec" before 1996. Technically someone could sell a set of "Vortec" heads and they would be accurate but these would NOT be the heads you are looking for. You are looking for two casting numbers, 12558062 and 10239906. An easy tip to identify the two from others is the heart shaped combustion chambers. Casting 12558059 is also a "Vortec" truck head built after 1996 but the undesirable 305 version.

Trying them for the first time myself. Will post some hp figures at the beginning of the new year when I can get them dynoed.
Visually, the casting were very nice and clean....no burrs or flaws. The Kiwi's must know there stuff (cast in New Zealand). I built mine up with Manley Street Flo valves and Comp Cams springs & retainers. I have fairly extensive port work to the exhaust side only with pocket work on both the intake and exhaust. Backcut valves on all 16.
