302 in a 91Z28

Guys I have a clean 30K mile 91Z28 with LB9/700R4/3.73 10 bolt. I have done all the little things but technology has caught up with this car. I get a red light with the likes of auroras, 300M's, lincoln LS's and man we are door to door if we go at it

Since I built a 393 windsor for my fox mustang I have a perfectly good balanced 306 sitting in my garage waiting for a home. It is a low 300 horse very streetable engine. I know there are adapter plates for a ford block to a 700R4 transmission. Other fabricating motor mounts and oil pan what else would be needed. I'd think mustang shorty headers and custom bent exhaust to the cat. Dimensionally everything should be smaller so I would think clearance would be a problem.

I have been thinking 355 or 383 but I have perfectly good running engine that would be cheaper to swap in than build a new SBC.

PA racing make tubular k-members to adapt SBC's into fox bodies, so if you could get measurements off of them, i'm sure you could reverse everything and figure out what kinda offsets you need, that or throw the 306 in however it'll fit, move the trans crossmember and shorten the d/s (maybe new yokes) however much you need....shouldn't be hard....

I was just looking everything over and I don't really see a problem. I mean if a buddy of mine can put a 350 in a 81 mazda RX7 it shouldn't be a problem getting the 5.0 in the larger engine bay of a camaro.

This 305 tpi is plain anemic, I swear my ol wood hauler with a 300 I6 revs better above 4K.

i really like chevy. but if i owned a mustang, it WILL have a powerful 347 stroked small block ford. and my camaro will always have a chevy. don't do the manufacturer swap. that is just a :nono: if you like your fbody, then sell the 306 and buy a good 350 or 383. if you like your 306, sell the camaro and put it in a fox body

I completely agree 100%. Best way to put it. You can make equally scary small blocks for ford's and chevy's so pick a car and use your motors appropriately.

That's at least one big error in your thought process.

i'd say if your going to the trouble the to stick a Ford engine in a chevy, go with something that has *****, like the 460ci. The 302 is okay if its a chevy 302 like the earlier production blocks. but there is nothing wrong w/ swapping different manufacturers, but it could become a big PITA later on. think of the extra costs you'll incur as opposed to just keeping it a chevy!
chevrolets theory: keep it simple stupid.
fords theory: fix, oil and repair daily.

I own both, but my ford still out runs my camaro.
