I have a 1988 Camaro SC with the stock 305 TBI and 4 speed auto. Yeah, nothing too exciting yet. I know the TBI engine really doesn't hold all that much potential, and would be interested in putting a 305 or 350 TPI in instead. My REAL dream is to put an LT1 in out of a 94/95 Z28, but that's out of my budget for now.

How much would swapping a 350 TPI (OR 305), parts, and labour cost me do you think? I've heard it's not that expensive, and plus if you get a 350 out of say an 89 Iroc, they got some decent power.

My budget is around 2,000-2,500, max.

Don't bash TBI so quickly. It has very commendable power potential, you just have to know what you are doing. TBI can get cars into the 9's if done right, but I think that would be out of your price range. Your best bet is to get a complete L98 with everyrthing from engine to wiring to brackets (although the ones from your car will work too) to inductions and computer. You could probably find a complete one for around$800. Then spend about a grand to upgrade the sensors, maybe a new cam and some valve springs, ya know get some goodies for it. Labor is gonna kill you though if you don't do it yourself. That's where most of your money will go. And be sure to put aside a couple hundred just for the littled odds and ends that come up and aren't planned for (i.e. vacuum lines, sensors, random crap you're bound to run into) A L98 will bolt right up to what you have now, you just need the wiring.
