Need help finding heads for frankenstien LB9
Hello everyone! I have quite a few parts left over from multiple projects and have decided to use them to build a super budget frankenstien LB9 engine. I want to put this engine in a S10 and use it to tow my Camaro to the tracks. So I'm not really building this to be a performance engine, but more of a towing engine (that does burnouts lol). Here is what I have:
89 L03 motor (free)
89 L98 heads (free)
89 L98 cam (free)
89 TPI (MAF) intake setup w/ 22# injectors (free)
Painless MAF TPI Standalone harness (free)
My idea is to toss the top end of the L03 in the fire pit, and slap the L98 parts on the L03 block. This would give me a frankenstien LB9 with some issues. The problem is that the 64cc L98 heads on a 305 will drop the compression to 8.2:1 which is way low. So I see three options here:
1. Find heads with the correct 58cc chambers and forget about the whole compression issue. Seems like the best 'super budget' solution if I could find a set of cheap iron heads. I know the Aluminum L98 Vette heads would work, but they dont fit under 'super budget.'
2. Keep the iroc 64cc L98 heads and try to raise the compression back up to 9.x:1 by milling the head, running thinner gaskets, and possibly a different set of pistons. Does not really fit under 'super budget' unless I can find cheap pistons.
3. Low Compression? Big injectors? ADD BOOST! Definately does not fit under 'super budget' but have been interested in the budget Eaton M112/90 projects other people have been doing lately. Would be kind of ... crazy!!
The first option seems like the cheapest and easiest way to go if I can find a cheap set of iron 58cc heads. I've been looking through Ebay for a set of LB9 heads, but people rarely refer to things with engine codes. They all refer casting numbers. So I was wondering if anyone here might know what 58cc heads will work on the 305 with a TPI intake or what the casting numbers might be? Dont care what year/model car they come from, as long as it works. If anyone knows any tips I could use the help! I would like to spend under $300 for 58cc iron heads and a set of 19# injectors. Not concerned about performance, but would like to be able to tow a trailer with a Camaro on top. Thanks for any help you guys can provide!!
