I have an 88 Iroc Convertible with about 150K on it - so I know I will be needing an engine rebuild soon.

I was considering installing a crate engine but would like to stick with the stock TPI. The only mods I would be looking at doing is the exhaust system.

I'm not looking for a mega-horse power motor (it's a convertible so I would be concerned with mucking up the rest of the drive train and frame as well as I'm looking to get another 100K out of the new engine).

I've seen the 350HO GM motor but it's only for up to 1985 applications.

Can I use it on an 88 and still be emissions legal? If not, is there a reasonable price crate engine I could use and keep the stock TPI?

If not, my alternative would be go to just rebuild my 305. I'm really just looking for about 250 HP.

 

Have you looked at something like the 300HP TPI replacement?
