The ones you have are about as good as they get. Should be 416s. Same casting as LG4, Cross-Fire, etc. in all cars including Caprice, Monte Carlo, Cutlass, etc., and the 85-86 TPI 305s.

Ported World S/R Torquer 305's are slightly better than ported 416's or 601's.

I went with the Worlds because they start out as performance-oriented heads (rather than mass production) with thicker deck, 1.94" intake valves, and screw-in rocker studs; and I wanted to reduce down-time for the upgrade process. They do need some basic bowl-area porting to begin to realize their potential, though.

I would think the LB9s on the newer TPIs would be better than those.

They're about the same. Except that the older ones are a hell of alot easier to find.

no to stray off topic, but if you consider the cost of buying a good set of heads then porting them, you may want to consider a healthy used 350. Cubes=Power I looked into building my 305 and IMHO it's not worth it. For the cost of building it up I can find a rebuilt 350 and then have a much stronger starting point.

 you can blow up a t-5 just as easily with a 305.... i don't see how that is a valid point.

sorry its not..its just the first thing that comes to mind when i think of a 350...the second would be why fix something if it isnt broken..my bottom end has 83,000 miles on it..im not looking to build a race car just a quick street car...besides by the time i swap the motor i will still want a decent set of heads.

Then don't get heads that are ideal for a 305.

And both of these points bring me back to my original point of "Built 305" vs "Rebuilt 350"-- My T5 is in rough shape and has only had the stock non-HO 305 put through it. 120 horse, I think. Any engine can damage a tranny if enough burn outs are logged. I'm not building a strip car either, just something w/some cajones. And it's easier to build a 350 than a 305, because you start off stronger with more cubic inches. Good 350 heads can work on a 305 and vice versa, it's just in the tuning and the carb setting yadayada..... but my point is that if money happens to be a factor, it's better spent on the overall package rather than picking a single part of an already weak combination to beef up.
