LS1 swap

i'm goin to be doin the LS1 and 6-speed swap within a couple of months my question is has anyone out there put a forced induction LS1 in a third gen or a stage II headed and cammed LS1 in a 3rd gen if so what kind of numbers are they puttin to the ground and what kind of 1/4 times are they running. also for the S/C cars what system did u use or did u have to make up custom plumbing. i really wanna put a S/C on in the future for a ova 400rwhp car. (my friend has a '03 cobra puttin 550rwhp so i need to spank him

I don't think you need a supercharger to get over 400HP. My friend's got an '02 Z28 with basic bolt on's and he's runnin' low 12's. His is an auto with a 3500 stall.

Heads, cam, longtubes, and bolt-on's is easily good enough for 400+++rwhp. If you can get it too hook up, mid 11's should be attainable. Some guys have creeped over 400rwhp on stock heads. The P1SC ProCharger is the best setup for LS1's, but I don't know if they make a kit to fit a swapped Third Gen. It probably wouldn't be terribly difficult to adapt a Fourth Gen kit, though.

Speartech's project car runs high 11's with the stock heads, no forced induction.

for half the price of the blower, you can get the ls6 package from gm. They say it'll up ya to 405 hp.

That will cost you an arm and a leg and only yield 400 at the crank. A heads and cammed LS1 can put 400 to the wheels and can propel a 4th gen into the 11's with ease. Not to mention at a fraction of the cost of a new LS6. Now imagine that in a 3rd gen that is a few hundred pounds lighter. Scary stuff. A super charger would be sweet but just a heads and cammed LS1 with a medium dose of giggle juice can make monster numbers.

Definitely. A guy I raced last year had an '01 Trans Am with MTI heads, cam, longtune headers, automatic tranny, 4.10 gears, Nitto's, and a 150 shot. He was putting down 450 rwhp NA, almost 600 on spray. Needless to say he took me pretty good, but your goal is easily attainable without power adders on LS1's.

Isn't it just so amazing how these cars can get 400rwhp and idle glass smooth. There are some cammed LT1's that can just keep pace with some stock LS1's.

Haha, yeah I know about that. Last time I went out I was hanging with lid/exhaust LS1's if not beating them by just a little, but not much. Hopefully after I do some things over spring break I'll be able to go for a little more modded ones.

Yea you should especially with the weight adavntage of the 3rd gen. People don't realize that the LS1 has a solid 50 more hp than the LT1 and even more torque. So even a full exhaust and mild cam LT1 puts it on par. Now ported heads and a scary cam is a different story. I just laugh when I think of what I have to do to my LT1 to get it to where my roomates SS is stock.

Well, I don't think you need to do much unless your roomate has a modded ls1.
