question about engine swap
Just wondering if I can use a 350 block from an 88 chevy truck to swap into my 91Z that has a 305. I can get the shortblock 350 for 50 bucks nothing wrong with it from a friend. just not sure if i can just bolt the heads, intake, FI, and cam into it and it work fine. If i am thinking right the 91Z has the roller lifters and all and has a guide for them and the truck 350 might not accept the guide. Is it possible and what would i have to do to make this work. Any help is welcomed.. Thanks.

From what i've been told, the truck blocks are roller blocks with hydraulic cams.
If you just want to swap the whole long block in where your 305 was, everything will bolt up fine. Same centerbolt cyl heads.
If you for some weird reason want to put the 305 cam in the truck block, in theory it will work using the spider/retainers, lifters, pushrods, thurst washer/button, and cam.
but why want a 305 cam in a 350?
Why do you want to put the 305 heads on the 350? The valves will be too small and it may screw up your compression dependent upon the chamber size of the 305 heads vs the heads that should have been on the 350.
You'll need a custom prom for this, unless you can get a straight 350 eprom to work.
