LT1 Performance Cam ?

For a daily driver which would be the best cam for my LT1?
Comp Cams XE 230/236
Or CC 306?
Any other suggestions?

Both the cams you suggested are great cams that make some great power, but you are going to NEED ported heads to really take advantage of either of them. If thats not a problem, they are both very similar, with the CC306 being a more high RPM cam while the 230/236 has a little more low end grunt. In two identical cars these cams would run very similar times. If you want something a little bigger, check out the GM847 cam. Something smaller, go for the Hotcam or CC305.

TexasLT1 nailed it. The CC306 is a monster and really likes ported heads and a lot of revs. The CC305 and hotcam are better suited for all out street use. Check out www.camaroz28.com and see what kind of cams those guys use for their street cars.

So would either of these cams cause a problem being used on stock iron heads for a while? I want to hurry up and swap the LT1 in and I figured it'd be easiest to swap cams while it's out of the car. Either ported heads or AFR's will be in the future for sure, but I don't have the $$ to invest before the swap. So will either of these cams cause any major problems being used with stock heads?

I take it you have an iron headed LT1? If so I am not sure what the max lift is for those heads. If they can take the lift of either of those cams then they will work. i would try to do some research on www.camaroz28.com to find out for sure. You are going to want to have the ECM reprogrammed though. You may have some driviability problems with those cams on a stock tune.

Go w/ the xe230/236. The 306 is an older design cam, w/ lazier ramp rates. You can tell that by comparing the two cams by duration at .050 and advertised durtaion

XE - 230/236 @ .050 - 281/287 advertised

306 - 230/244 @ .050 - 290/207 advertised

the XE will idle better w/ better vacuum than the 306 and the 306 will have to be spun higher to make power.

Not saying that the 306 isn't a good cam. A ton of guys are running it w/ great success. I just like the XE grinds better.
