The guy lives like 5 minutes from me and he says he can work out a payment plan. Did '96 Camaro SS's get LT4's? He says it's outta a '96 Camaro SS. What are the specs? He says it's a true angle plug aluminum-headed motor.
Despite what the auction states, he's not gonna sell it for less than $1800. Since we've already talked I'm going to be putting a downpayment soon.

There were only about 104 f-bodies produced with the LT4 in 1997 only. That is a plain old LT1. It makes about 300 at the crank but is rated at 285 (can't be rated higher than the vette even though it is the same motor minus a few details). That price is too high if you ask me. You could get an LS1 for that. You can find LT1's with a T-56 attached to it for that price. I would keep looking if I were you. Sure it only has 33,000 miles on it but no one can garantee that and you'll most likely want to build it up anyways. How much lower was he going to go. You can get a decent mileage LT1 for 1000 in some places.

I don't know how much lower he was willing to go, but this guy seems like a really nice guy. He's willing to work out a 6-month payment plan! He originally bought it to put into his '91 GTA, but he sold the car cuz it was rare. I'm going tomorrow to see it, anything particular I should look for?

Look for a possible leaking water pump. They can leak onto the opti which is garanteed to cause it to fail. Also, LT1's are notorious for having a rear intake manifold leak. Nothing to get scared over unless the owner kept the oil level up.

The more I think about it, I realize that $1800's steep! Unless it's a true LT4 motor. Did '96 SS Camaro's get LT4's? I thought only '97's did.

That is not an LT4!!!!! There were literally only 100 or so LT4 f-bodies made in 1997 only (no other year) and that motor just won't leave the car. It is a collectors piece and those cars are pretty much never driven. If that link is the exact motor that he is selling it is not an LT4. If does not have the red intake manifold. You can get a whole LT1 minus tranny for 1000. For 1800 it better come with the harness, computer, and tranny.
