A/C box on the firewall

ive done 3 engine swaps in my car so far, and everytime i notice this box that appears to be attached the firewall, that was once hooked to the A/C that i took out.

as ive wandered through the message boards, ive noticed that some of you have been able to get rid of this eye soar. can someone tell me how? it would clean up my engine bay alot. i am willing to get rid of anything attached to it, so dont hesitate to inform me... thanks

well you can get the non a/c heater box from a 3rd gen. or you can weld in a piece of sheet metal over the holes if you dont want a heater at all.

they normally look a lot better painted the body color, mine is off at the paint shop right now getting repainted so it "blends" in a little better. you can find the boxes at junkyards, ebay, and in the classifieds. to my knowledge the box is not avaible through GM

ok what about the silver canister attached to that box. i have no idea what it does, but can i pull that off w/o losing my heat? can i disconnect everythign attached to that box on the firewall, and still have my heat working?

all you need for the heater to work is the blower motor in the box, the two heater hoses that go into the firewall for the heater core, and of course the HVAC controls inside of the car. the metal canister is something for the air conditioner that you dont need if you delete the a/c.
