Transmission: T-5; Axle Ratio 3.73
Pre-85 block or new LT1-LS1

Pre-85 block or new LT1-LS1. Is the hastle of swaping in a new LT1 or LS1 worth it? Is it better and the old style engines? My L69 is carbed so it must be carbed. No EFI...

It depends on what your goals are and what you mean by better.

if it "MUST" be carbed,,why I dont know..buy a JY 350 and go from there.....no scence killing a LT-1 or LS-1

Whats your existing motor having a carb have to do with what you install ?

because I don't want to deal with installing all the electronics that come with EFI...Plus, carbs are easier to tune.

It all depends on what you are used to . I can tune EFI all day but am clueless when it comes to carbs.

Ok....forget about induction for now. Is there any benifit from one to the other about the engine blocks or gemometry that make one better than the others? Or can any one of them produce the same amount of power. Are the new ones more fuel efficient in any way? Thats what I mean by better...

I have a 400 hp LT4, I'm getting about 15 mpg around town and 25 on the highway, gotten 30 once. I have a T-5 with 3.42 gears.

LS1's are getting even better gas mileage.


Also, since you have a carb car, it will actually be easier to swap in since the wires that you need to splice in are the only ones in the engine compartment as it is.
