Longblock possibilities
I have a tpi setup off of my 1986 iroc. The wire harness is all screwed up, and I wonder if the ECM pooped out as well.
I was considering picking up a later model wire harness (speed density), and ecm for a 350 tpi. Would this be compatible with my 86 tpi intake? It has the cold start injector, but later models do not. (I do plan on learning how to program my own ecm)
Onto my longblock questions. I am just looking for something to get the car running for now, which I can later have rebuilt with what I would like.
I've narrowed it down to this:
1. The GM LM1 cheap new 4-bolt $1,279.99
http://sdpc2000.com/cart.asp?action=...id=128&pid=110
Cons: everyone says it's a horrible performer. Only good thing about it is it's a 4-bolt block
2. The GM Caprice 350. $1,585.17
http://sdpc2000.com/cart.asp?action=...id=128&pid=105
Cons: don't know much about it. Assuming it's a 2 bolt block, and it's more expensive than the gm cheapie above.
3. A rebuilt 400ci longblock. $1,094.00
http://www.rebuilt-auto-engines.com/...55103606053.09
Cons: I hear the heads suck on these engines. I am not sure if it is compatible with a TPI setup, (does it have holes for the sensors, like coolant temp, knock, etc?). Also, there are 3 head casting numbers. I checked them out, but wasn't' able to find out which head of the 3 is the best performer. Does anyone know?

I would lean toward the 400 ci, because when I could afford to rebuild it, (afr heads, cam, forged internals, new intake, etc) it would have a lot more potential than a 350. Displacement is cool.
Thanks for any input here.
