LT1 vss with T-5

Put this in drivetrain but no response thought I would try it here.
I did a search with this but couldn't find the answer to my question. I am putting a 97 LT1 in my 89 camaro RS. It has a cable speedo drive. If I dont intend on using the Cruise control can I just have the VSS deleted out of the LT1 computer?

NO. The 4th gen PCM NEEDS the VSS input to run correctly. I found that out the hard way. The cheapest and easiest solution is the way I did mine, seriously cost me about $20. The T-56 program has a VSS input rate of 17 pulses per driveshaft revolution. Without the SGI interface box and an aftermarket speed sender, there is no simple way to get this imput rate.

What I ended up doing for mine was getting the speed sender out of a late model S-10 and mounted a 17 tooth sprocket on the yoke of the driveshaft. I then mounted the sender coming off the exhaust hanger on the tailcone of the transmission. The exact sender is used in nearly all late model GM cars and some trucks. Two wire, permanent magnet. I'll scan the photo I have of mine and post it up tonight. This allows you to keep your cable drive to drive the speedo and cruise control, while the electronic sender has the input for the PCM. I have a '92 RS with a T-5 and I left the stock VSS sender in the trans. Ultimately I'll pull it out and get the tailcone machined to accept the late model sender, as well as use the PCM VSS output to drive the speedo.
