Need a little advice on engine swap.

Ok I have a 3.4lt V6 in my camaro. I have called ALL of the junkyards around me and NO ONE has a 350. The best I could find is everything I need to do the swap... But its a 305 TBI out of a 1989 rs. By everything I mean Tranny, complete engine from pan to intake, harness, ECM, mounts, Y-pipe, and I can talk the radiator into it, all for $700. I don't have much money and the V6 don't run no more. I know all of you are thinking "wait for a 350" But I can't. I can put a better cam in the 305 port and polish the heads an intake, or even put a TPI on it. I know the engine is the LO3 (170HP - 255lbs-tq) But thats alot better that 160hp and 200lbs-tq. And theres not much you can do with these V6 engine.

Don't bother doing anything with the LO3 heads. It just doesn't help them. Try to find a set of 416 or 081 heads (classifieds), work them over, and put them on top of the LO3.

Try to get the whole car. There's bound to be something you need off of it, and you'll take the chance that the car will disappear before you know you need something else. Tell them you'll let them have everything you don't need back (including your V6 stuff).

Thats a good idea. I'll call the junk yard tomorrow and see what they want for the whole car. This junkyard is really only in it for the scrap, they crush it and sell the metal. Thats why they are so cheap

Car: 89 trans am
Engine: 355
Transmission: 700r4
look in the classifieds section there is a 89 350 tbi motor there.. i just rebuild my 350 tbi.. i got just about everything new and it came out to 1100, the block in classifieds is bare.. but like i said i got alot of stuff for my motor for 1100 and i'm sure it wouldn't even cost you as much as it costed me cause i had to get mine bored out so that was an extra 275, then i had to pay for them to press the pistons off the rods and press the new pistons on my rods which was 95.. so you might wanna look into the motor, plus it's a 4 bolt main

I have a 350 with the 700r4 trans. it's out of my 86 iroc. dont believe it was the original motor. i bought it off of a friend of mine. he told me that it did run very good, but i cant guarantee it. it is coming out of the car this week.

Even if you find a 350 first, I would still snag up the the v-8 car from the JY, There are tons of parts you will need for your swap!

Another option is a GM Goodwrench 350, which CarCraft ran a series on upgrading last year (I think that's when it as). Last time I looked they were like $1200-1300 and came with a 3 YR/36,000 mile warranty from Pace Performance Parts and Scoggins-Dickey. Just an idea.

Good Luck with your swap!
